Christian art is sacred* art produced to illustrate the main beliefs of Christianity or are used as a focus of worship. Most Christian groups use or have used art to some extent, although some have had strong objections to some forms of religious image. Images of Jesus and narrative scenes from the life of Christ are the most common subjects, and scenes from the Old Testament play a part in the art of most denominations.
*sacred = concerned with or dedicated to religious purposes Images of the Virgin Mary and saints are much more commonly found in Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, and far less-so in the Protestant churches.

Islam has created its own styles of art and architecture. Because Islamic art has its own distinctive style, it can be identified as Islamic art regardless of the country or time in which it was created. Unlike other artistic traditions, paintings and sculptures do not have a higher status to other forms of art or craft, such as pottery or decorative tiles. Islamic art seeks to portray the meaning and essence of things, rather than just their physical form. One important aspect is that Islamic religious art does not show representations of Allah (God), people or animals.
“Whoever makes an image in this world, he will be requested to breathe life into it on the Day of Resurrection, but he will not be able to do it.” Calligraphy |
